Qalqalah

  • Due to the difficulty of pronouncing some letters without the Qalqalah, Qalqalah is applied to them.
  • Qalqalah means ‘echo.’
  • The effect produces an echoing sound or a vibration at the letter’s articulation point.
  • This rule is applied to the following five letters:ق ط ب ج د.
  • You’ll note that when you try to speak these letters with a sukun on them, the articulation point shuts and imprisons the sound, making pronunciation difficult. As a result, the Arabs devised this guideline to assist them in overcoming this challenge.
  • The Qalqalah must be complete without making any mouth or jaw movements.
  • Several stages of Qalqalah must be taught for a reciter to have a thorough understanding of the process.

Madd al-Aslee

  • The madd letters keep their natural time without the hamza or sukun, as they are termed Madd al-Aslee.
