Reading Quran for the deceased: Scholars agree that reading the Quran at the deceased’s grave is not banned, and the reader makes no sin. According to the majority of academics from the Shafi’i, Hanafi, and Hanbali schools, such activity approved. This idea is based on the hadith narrated by Anas, who said,
“Whoever enters a cemetery and recites the chapter of Yasin, the plight of the deceased is reduced, and they receive a reward equal to the amount of graves present.” Also, it was soundly narrated on the authority of Ibn Umar that the Prophet advised [Muslims] to recite Al-Fatiha and the concluding verses of Al-Baqarah at the grave of the deceased. Abu Hurairah reported that The Prophet’s peace is upon him said, “When a person dies, all his good deeds cease except for three: a continuous act of charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous son (children) who prays for him.” (Muslim, and the Sunan).

“The righteous works that continue to benefit a believer after his death include the knowledge that he taught and spread among others, a righteous son whom he leaves behind, or a copy of the Qur’an that he bequeaths to his inheritors, or a mosque that he builds, or a rest house that he builds for the wanderers, or a canal of water that he digs for the benefit of others, or a charity that he gives out of his property during his life while he is sound of health. He will continue to receive a reward for all these even after death.” (Ibn Majah).

The Sunnah of the Prophet and his companions is to pay charity and pray for the dead, The Quran tells us that we should pray for all the Muslims who have died before us.
However, another group of scholars, belonging to all of the critical schools, said:
- From the permission described above given by the Prophet, there is no need to stop reading the Quran and praying.
- As a result, they believe that reading the Quran and praying to Allah to send the rewards to their deceased parents and relatives is possible.

- However, this group majority bans hiring people to read the Quran. This group also forbids holding a gathering to read the Quran after death on a specific date.
Conclusion
Reading Quran for the deceased – Whether the deceased is a relative or not, It is possible to present the reward of completing the Qur’an to a dead individual. All Muslim scholars share this viewpoint.
But, it is better to stop it; instead, it suggests multiplying saying Du’a for a dead person and giving charity in favor of him since the sound Sunnah proves such acts.
On the other hand, finishing the Qur’an and presenting its reward was not the ordinary deed of the Prophet’s (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) companions despite the death of many believers and their relatives.
